I have listened to every Gabriel Allon book and loved them all. Bring back any of the former narrators(John Lee, Phil Gigante) but, PLEASE no more George Guidal. He does not capture the essence of the foreign accents nor the characters. It’s like listening to grandpa sugar coat a scary story. He’s out of his league in this series

I was enthralled. What a gritty story set at a time when women were not worth much in that part of Chicago. I felt myself go deeper and deeper into the story and was shocked when I finished the book. I didn’t want it to end, yet, it had to have an ending. I want more….so I also got the story read to me. Christa Lewis brought Tanya Eby’s story to life in a way my own reading of it could not. Masterful story telling at it’s best.

Comment on Out Now: The Last Days of New Paris by China Miéville by Terence Blake http://audiobooknews.club/2016/08/11/out-now-the-last-days-of-new-paris-by-china-mieville/#comment-704 Fri, 19 Aug 2016 06:51:11 +0000 http://audiobooknews.club/?p=1434#comment-704 I kept thinking of Aliette de Bodard’s THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS while reading China Miéville’s THE LAST DAYS OF NEW PARIS. The link may
seem tenuous, as the styles and stories are very different. They have in common the poetic evocation and reworking of a magic-saturated Paris after a devastating and reality-distorting event, the Magic War for THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS and the surrealist S-Blast for THE LAST DAYS OF
NEW PARIS. Full review here: https://xenoswarm.wordpress.com/2016/08/12/the-last-days-of-new-paris-china-mievilles-deleuzian-science-fiction-novella/

The original readers were 1000 x better than Guidall.

Comment on Review: Tom Clancy Duty and Honor by Grant Blackwood, read by Scott Brick by C. Mosby Miller http://audiobooknews.club/2016/06/23/review-tom-clancy-duty-and-honor-by-grant-blackwood-read-by-scott-brick/#comment-408 Fri, 01 Jul 2016 13:06:30 +0000 http://audiobooknews.club/?p=1205#comment-408 Personally, if I weren’t so lazy, I would initiate a class-action lawsuit against all publishers who use the name of a dead or authorize inactive but famous author to promote a book. My God, the font used in Clancy’s name in Duty and Honor is bigger than the name of the book, itself! And the actual writer, what’s-his-name can barely be seen.

Of course, there is also those semi-retired authors who want us to believe that they co-wrote a novel with other what’s-their-names when the amount of their actual contribute is, at best, unknown.

We use to call these tactics deceit. Even fraud. Today, it’s just the way to do business in the publishing world.
